Types of special coatings
Our coatings service provides a protective treatment, either by electroplating or immersion.
Electrolytic coatings:
Zinc Cr(III)
This process applies a thin layer of zinc, allowing the addition of a sealant to improve resistance to red and white rust.
Dichromate Cr(III)
An electroplated zinc coating with an iridescent yellow finish. Substitute for the old Dichromate Cr(VI). Offers high levels of protection against corrosion and complies with environmental regulations.
Zinc Nickel
An electrolytic zinc-nickel alloy coating, 12-16% nickel, which provides even greater protection against corrosion. With the application of a sealant, corrosion resistance can exceed 1,000 hours in a salt fog chamber.
Immersion coatings:
Zinc flake
An inorganic coating of zinc and aluminium flakes that provides good protection against corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement. Its corrosion resistance varies between 500 and 1,000 hours in a salt fog chamber. Available brands include Delta Protekt®, Dacromet® and Geomet®.
HDG
This is also known as Hot-Dip Galvanisation. This process involves immersing the parts in a bath of melted zinc at high temperatures (470 ºC to 520 ºC). The corrosion resistance depends on the thickness of the coating, in accordance with ISO 10684, and the environment that the fasteners are exposed to.
