When to use Stainless Steel Fasteners

In one of our articles we explained the types of stainless steel fasteners according to their function, but it is also important to know when to use stainless steel fasteners according to the type of application and answering questions such as: In what type of environment will the product be exposed? What weather conditions will it face? This range of products is characterised by its versatility and durability, as well as adapting to a wide range of sectors.

Find out about the different areas of application of stainless steel fasteners and the advantages of each one of them.

Stainless Steel Fasteners in the Food Industry

Stainless steel fasteners, as well as being highly resistant to corrosion and oxidation, have hygienic properties that meet the requirements for their application in the food industry. Thanks to its composition, stainless steel avoids contamination of the products with which it is in contact and respects hygiene standards throughout the food handling process.

Among all the stainless steel alloys available for the food industry, AISI 304 (A2) stands out. This material is used in the manufacture of equipment and utensils for the food industry. Although if the type of application requires a higher demand, AISI 316 (A4) is used, which incorporates molybdenum that provides greater resistance to corrosion.

Some of the most common applications of stainless steel in the food industry are work surfaces -such as tables or shelves-, kitchen equipment -refrigerators, dishwashers or extractor hoods-, cutlery, utensils and containers for serving and preserving food, as well as processing machinery such as cutting and packaging.

Stainless Steel Fasteners in the Marine Industry

Salt water is one of the main factors to take into account when choosing the type of fasteners for maritime applications. Stainless steel is very useful in the manufacture of structures and elements exposed to humid environments and in contact with seawater due to its high resistance to corrosion. In this sense, AISI 316 (A4) is the perfect choice for this type of application because, in addition to offering high resistance to corrosion, it is also ideal for environments subjected to high temperatures.

Another of the advantages of applying stainless steel fasteners in marine environments is that, thanks to their resistance to corrosion, they maintain their appearance for a longer period of time, adding an aesthetic touch to the final result.

In terms of applications, stainless steel fasteners are used for shipbuilding, gangways and fencing on boardwalks, as well as in ventilation systems. Another use of stainless steel fasteners in the maritime industry is for components of desalination systems or any other system in contact with salt water.

Uses and Applications of Stainless Steel Fasteners

In general terms, corrosion resistance and durability are the main characteristics that differentiate stainless steel fasteners from other metals. Thanks to this peculiarity, we can say that it is a very versatile product as it adapts to a large number of applications in different industries: food, maritime, chemical and construction, among others. We have products manufactured in A2 (AISI 304), A4 (AISI 316) and AISI 420 stainless steel that adapt to all types of projects.
