Stainless steel TIG rods are used as filler material when joining stainless steels and in certain applications involving steels of different compositions. The range comprises the grades W 19 9 L Si, W 19 12 3 L Si and W 23 12 L Si, classified in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 14343-A standard. These grades correspond to the commercial designations 308LSi, 316LSi and 309LSi.
The GW STICK 3.30 (308LSi) rod, classified as W 19 9 L Si, is primarily intended for welding 304 and 304L stainless steels. Its silicon content improves the fluidity of the weld pool and facilitates the formation of a uniform weld bead.
For 316 and 316L steels, the GW STICK 3.31 (316LSi), classified as W 19 12 3 L Si, is used. Its molybdenum content provides greater resistance to certain corrosive environments, making it suitable for more demanding applications.
The GW STICK 3.32 (309LSi), classified as W 23 12 L Si, is used for joints between stainless steel and carbon steel, as well as in other applications involving steels of different compositions.
Its composition helps to maintain the properties of the joint when different materials are combined and produces a weld bead suited to this type of application.
The choice depends primarily on the steel to be welded. For 304 and 304L materials, the W 19 9 L Si grade is commonly used, whilst the W 19 12 3 L Si is intended for 316 and 316L steels.
When the joint combines stainless steel and carbon steel, the W 23 12 L Si grade is usually the most suitable option. It is also important to take into account the operating environment, the working temperature and the required level of corrosion resistance.
