The aluminium TIG rod is used as a filler material in the welding of aluminium and its alloys. Its composition influences the strength of the joint, its resistance to corrosion, the fluidity of the weld pool and the risk of cracking during the process.
Our range includes the grades S Al 5356 (AlMg5Cr(A)), S Al 4043 (AlSi5) and S Al 4047 (AlSi12), classified in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 18273 standard. Each grade corresponds to a different type of alloy and different welding requirements.
The GW STICK 3.50, classified as S Al 5356 (AlMg5Cr(A)), is an aluminium-magnesium alloy that offers good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.
It is used in structures, industrial components and applications exposed to marine environments. The choice of rod should be based on the base alloy and the treatments or finishes the workpiece will undergo after welding.
The S Al 4043 (AlSi5) grade contains around 5% silicon, which improves the fluidity of the weld pool and facilitates bead formation on compatible aluminium alloys.
The GW STICK 3.53, classified as S Al 4047 (AlSi12), contains a higher proportion of silicon. This provides superior fluidity and can help reduce the risk of hot cracking in certain applications.
This grade is used in industrial components, automotive parts and heat exchangers where it is compatible with the base alloy.
The choice depends primarily on the type of aluminium to be welded and the properties the joint must retain.
S Al 5356 is suitable when good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance are required. The S Al 4043 and S Al 4047 grades stand out due to the fluidity that silicon brings to the weld pool.
It is also advisable to assess the risk of cracking, the working environment and any subsequent finishing processes before selecting the appropriate grade.
